“I have put in the work, dedicated myself to learning, become extremely disciplined in my studio practice and at the end of the day; it's the work that speaks. It is always about the work. It always has been.”

Conceptio/The Divine Spark

“Here is where our real selfhood is rooted, in the divine spark or seed, in the image of God imprinted on the human soul. The True Self is not our creation, but God's. It is the self we are in our depths. It is our capacity for divinity and transcendence.”

—Sue Monk Kidd

In many religions throughout the world, the concept of the Divine Spark is seen as the portion of God that resides within each person—a piece of the infinite creative force and pure consciousness. You might even say our individual lives are the Divine enjoying human experiences through us. In that case, there is nothing left to do but express that spark and see where it takes us! We are here to create, rather than fix. Life moves forward with curiosity and expression.

When you start a new project, idea, moment, remember that you are co-creating with the Universe. There is nothing more pure than the lighting of this spark. And if you have doubts or lose your momentum, try to remember the purity of that initial urge that longs to become something greater. Although you may let your traumas, insecurities, or logistics dampen the spark, please remember that that spark is bigger and more powerful than your container. Isn’t that worth honoring and trusting and seeing where things go? You’ve somehow made it this far without knowing what you are doing...and done a pretty magical job of it too.

Challenge: make a prayer to your creativity and see if something greater than your mind answers. What if all the fear you have felt is just a conditioned resistance to the call of the wild Universe that just wants to play and expand? And if you knew you were completely supported at every turn, would you let that inner Spark lead the way?

It’s always the beginning. The best is yet to come. Imagine it. Create it. Get comfortable with this power. This is the boundless Divine. What’s next?

Here is a mantra to play with: “I am not here to fix, I am here to create.”
